Taiko Ensemble
Rooted in Japanese American communities in the Bay Area since the 1960s, taiko is as much about building community as it is about making music. In this hands-on drumming ensemble, students learn fundamental techniques, including stance, striking, and form, and build toward playing rhythmic patterns together on a variety of drums. Along the way, we explore the history and cultural context of taiko and the values of discipline, respect, and teamwork that shape the tradition.
This is San Francisco's first collegiate taiko ensemble. It is open to ALL students, regardless of experience or background. No prior musical or drumming training is required, and students of every level are welcome. The semester culminates in an end-of-semester performance for the USF community.
Meeting Time: Thursday 6:30-8:30 pm in ED 040
